Zanibar - East coast for the best beaches

Best beaches on the world - this must come very close. This is a coral island so there is a coral reef surrounding the island, and a large area on the shore side of the reef that gives these turquoise blue shallows. It really is that colour - there has been no manipulation of these pictures. Probably the most pictureesque beaches ar eon the East coast around Paje. The name says it all - Paradise Beach Bungalows ($50 a night for double) is a Japanese run place with comfortable bungalows - so you get this beach AND sushi.

The food here is good Japanese home cooking with the standard burgers etc as well. They even have beach volleyball - Japanese net height!

We stayed at Sunrise Beach Hotel ($90 a night double) a little further North with French cuisine ( a bit more upmarket - better all round but also more expensive). This was the winter season (only 28 degC daytime tempertures, but sometimes cloudy, so staying at Sunrise Hotel - we only got one sunrise - I got up early every day and managed just this one sunrise.

More to follow...

Georginas 21st

This is a bit of catchup - Georginas 21st was actually in February!.

As we probably have more family and Georgina has a lot of friends down in Stellenbosch, we decided to have her 21st party there. We had it Skilpadvlei, a restaurant just outside Stellenbosch, and the theme was to dress in the letter 'G' - we had gardeners, golfers, gigolos and even grandpas. Great fun

Here are all the family at the party.

Gene and Georgina, they are looking more like each other now.

William and Georgina - WIlliam flew in from Grahamstown for the party along with cousins Harriet and George. William has probably changed the most and is now the tallest in the family.

Me with Georgina

and finally our family together.

Now that the kids are away from home these pictures are getting harder and harder to take.
